Kiltullagh Castle is said to have been built in 1427 and was a massive Blake castle which was lived in by the Blakes until 1780. Much of the castle collapsed during a storm in February 1902 and what remains today is just a glimpse of what was once a very large and majestic residence.

Despite the ruinous state of Kiltullagh castle, the stairwell remains in relatively good condition. Most of these pictures were taken in early 2009 when the Galway to Ballinasloe N6 dual carriageway was being built. The road passes very close to what remains of the castle, which is clearly visible as you drive by. You would wonder what the Blakes would make of it all. Probably not much. It would have taken a lot longer to get to Dublin in those days.
