The Grange was once a grand three-storey house but like so many of the great old houses of Ireland it is now sadly lying in ruins. Standish O'Grady bought around 100 acres of the land on which the house stands in about 1790 and the house was built by Standish's son Thomas in the early 1800s. The O'Grady family claimed to be one of the oldest in Ireland and they traced their family tree back as far as the Ancient Kings of Munster.

Thomas O'Grady died in 1861 and as he never married the house passed out of the O'Grady family for the first time. The new owners lived in the house until around the early 1940s and since then it has been slowing deteriorating into what is left today. A sad end for a fine house.
